Martin Olson was born Sept. 8, 1909, to Arnie and Louise (Stenson) Olson Boe north of Lake Preston. He attended rural school near Lake Preston. He worked several years for his brothers, driving truck and farming. Martin later worked at Ed Smith Implement in Lake Preston. He married Gladys Eckman on May 17, 1933, in Lake Preston. The couple moved to a farm in 1941 and farmed until their retirement in 1978. Mrs. Olson died on Nov. 1, 1982. Survivors include two sons, Donald of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Kenneth of Newport, Ore.; two daughters, Darlene Selken of Arlington and Ardis Nelson of Lake Preston; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; a brother, Albert of Sioux Falls; and two sisters, Nellie Larson of Sioux Falls and Alvina Jensen of New Ulm, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, a grandson, two brothers and five sisters. Funeral services for Martin Olson, 90, were held Wednesday at Lake Preston Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Senner officiating. Burial was at the Lake Preston City Cemetery. He died Aug. 13, 2000, at the Brookings Hospital. Johnson Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston was in charge of arrangements."
