He was born in Russell County, Va. and had followed the vocation of farming until ill health forced his retirement. His wife, the former Ollie Shortt, preceded him in death in 1951.
Surviving are six sons; Jay and Earnest and Stuart, all of Swords Creek, Va., Sherman, of Raven, Va., Marvin and Peery, both of Vandyke; five daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Mutter, Mrs. Mary McGee, both of Swords Creek, Mrs. Stella Davis and Mrs. Macie Johnson, both of Mansfield, OH., Mrs. Margie Johnson, of Richlands, Va.; fifty-nine grandchildren, seventy-nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday at 11 a. m. from the residence of Mrs. Gertrude Mutter at Swords Creek. Interment was in Richardson Cemetery at Swords Creek
