Lucy Charolotte Walton Moser, 99, died Thursday, June 8. 2000 at the Care Center in Afton.
Funeral services were held Monday June 12, at the Thayne Stake Center.
Lucy was born in Cleveland, ID on Oct 4, 1900 the fifth child of Charles Lorenzo Walton and Mary Amelia Jorgenson. She attended school for six years in a one-room school house walking three miles to school.
In 1914 Lucy moved with her family by wagon, to Bedford, where she was able to finish the eighth grade.
On Oct 24 1916 at the age of 16, Lucy became the bride of John "Jack" Ulrich Moser at the home of her parents. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 11, 1956.
The couple lived and worked in many places in Star Valley. On Aug 16, 1917 son Ralph was born. They welcomed Glenn in 1918.
In 1920 the couple purchased the ranch that is now owned by the Crook family. It was there Una was born Feb 25,1922.
Lucy and her children did much of the farm work, milking cows and putting up hay, while Jack hold jobs hauling milk and working on the roads. In 1938 the family left farming and bought the Palmer Store in Thayne. It was not uncommon to see Lucy carry 100-pound sacks of flour up the stairs from the basement for her customers.
At that time, Jack and Lucy had the only phone in Thayne with this came the responsibility of informing other families of wartime news when someone was injured or missing.
In 1942 Lucy made another career move. In addition to running the store, she took the Civil service Exam and became the new town postmaster. In 1945 they sold the store and bought their home on Osmond Street.
In 1955 Lucy retired from the post office. She and Jack spent the next two years running a pool hall and coffee shop in Thayne. After selling the business they spent the next several summers working at Colter Bay Resort.
In 1966 Jack and Lucy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at an open house in their honor. This was a special event that meant a great deal to Lucy.
While Lucy worked hard throughout her life, she also made time for fun. She and Jack spent many hours of camping and fishing with friends and family, all the way up to Jack's death in 1974.
She enjoyed a beautiful yard filled with trees and flowers. She loved to visit and enjoyed the company of her many friends and neighbors.
Lucy left her mark in this world as a teacher. She taught her children and grandchildren, through example, the satisfaction of a job well done. she enjoyed her involvement with the church and served as president of YWMIA, She also enjoyed genealogy work and dedicated many hours to research,
Friends and family helped Lucy celebrate her 80th birthday at an open house in 1980. By this time, she had the good fortune to have Carol Helm living with and caring for her.
Lucy had surgery in 1996 and was not well enough to return to her home. She spent 19 months in the nursing home in Jackson. When the new Care Center in Afton opened, it became Lucy's new home. It was there she spent the rest of her life.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Una Heap of Thayne, sister Ula Bevins of Soda Springs, nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, sons Ralph and Glenn, her parents, six brothers five sisters and two grandchildren,
