Newton Bacon was the 2nd cousin of Hudson Bacon one of the founders of the Western Emigration Company, a investment company that sold shares to build a settlement in the West.

Pike was founded June 14, 1835. The town was later called Southport know it is known as Kenosha city in Wisconsin.

.. his parents were Newton and Lovina (Bacon) Bacon. His father was a native of Connecticut and the family is of Scottish decent.

When a young man, his father Newton learned the Cooper's trade. In 1835 his parents immigrated into Kenosha Wisconsin. The trip was made by team through Michigan to Pleasant Prairie Township, were Mr. Bacon made a claim of eighty acres, upon which he built a long cabin 16x20 feet, that became the general stopping place for all travelers. The winter after his arrival he lost one of his horses and then purchased an ox team. Following the Cooper trade, he hauled his barrels by ox teams to Chicago which was then the nearest market. The unusual experiences of pioneer life were borne by the family who deserve mention in this volume for they were among the earliest settlers of the county. In politics, Mr Bacon was a democrat and for seventy years, held membership with the Masonic fraternity, being the oldest mason in the Northwest. He died Aug 27, 1891, having survived his wife about eleven years. Her death occured Feb 8, 1880. In their family were twelve children, Aldolphus, Adelia, Ada, Hiram, Julius W., the first white child born in Kenosha County his birth occured Feb 16, 1836; Sarah J., Lucy C, Homer, Mortimer (the subject of this sketch), George M. and Brown F. Bacon

Newtons parents were Joseph Bacon & Penelope Garret and his grandparents were Joseph Bacon Sr. & Mary Edgerton. Newton is mentioned in his grandfathers Will in Ohio.

The Bacon's were originally from Canton (Simsbury) Hartfort County Conneticut and then moved to Onondaga County New York in the early 1800's.. They later moved to Trumbull County, Ohio
