Funeral services for "Uncle" John A. Gaar, who died Saturday, January 6, 1945, were held at the New Hope Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Roy Grant officiating.

"Uncle" John was born February 22, 1857 [sic 1856], in Henry County, Georgia, and came to Gaars Mill community when he was seven years old.

He had been married twice; first to Almedy Hatten who died at the age of 32. Later he married [Lucy V. Chatham].

Uncle John has 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The six grandsons in the Armed Forces are A/C Robert Leon Gaar, Sgt. Lee J. Gaar, Pvt. Loy R. Gaar, Seaman Arthur Talton, Jr., and one son, D. C. Gaar, and Pvt. J. W. Kelly who was killed in France July, 1944.

Surviving are his children, J. M. Gaar of Dodson, Mrs. A. I. Talton of Winnfield, Mrs. Alma Dillon of Dodson, D. F. Gaar of Dodson, W. R. Gaar and C. A. Gaar of Gaars Mill, and Mrs. Ross Kelly of Winnfield, Route Two.
