Earl served as a Sergeant in Company D, 28th Infantry, 8th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in San Diego County, California prior to the war and enlisted on January 17, 1939.

Earl had previously served in World War I as a Private. He enlisted for World War I on August 26, 1918 in New York State. He served in the 7th Company, 2nd Training Company, 157th Depot Brigade. He was honorable discharged on November 25, 1918. He did not serve overseas during WW I.

He died at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri during the war. He was interred here on December 19, 1942.

Service # R-4563930

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (New York) instead of his state of residence, as was normally done, (California).
