Earl had previously served in World War I as a Private. He enlisted for World War I on August 26, 1918 in New York State. He served in the 7th Company, 2nd Training Company, 157th Depot Brigade. He was honorable discharged on November 25, 1918. He did not serve overseas during WW I.
He died at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri during the war. He was interred here on December 19, 1942.
