Son of John Cook Hunt and Anna Olson

Married Martha Cornelia Payne, 12 Feb 1896, Logan, Cache, Utah

Children - Birdie Cornelia Hunt, Martha Pearl Hunt, Anna Marie Hunt, Lillie Mae Hunt, Esther Hunt, Francis Diana Hunt, Robert Hunt, Samuel Nathaniel Hunt

History - Samuel Hunt was born in Millville, the son of John Cook and Anna Olson Hunt. He spent his early years at school and enjoyed the simple pleasures of the day. He worked with a threshing crew using horse-powered equipment; and while working at Lewiston, Utah, he heard of homesteads available near the Bear River and filed on one.

On February 12, 1896, he married Martha Cornelia Payne, the daughter of James Levi and Martha Colemere Payne. She was born October 4, 1876, at Trenton. Sam and Martha moved to the homestead and, after proving up on it, they sold out and moved south of Trenton.

He served an LDS mission to the British Isles, then returned with his family to Millville and took care of his mother, Anna Hunt. After her death, they moved to Smithfield where Samuel worked as a carpenter and his daughters helped with the farm work. Sam and Martha were patient in their trials and were faithful Latter-day Saints, serving wherever they were called.

Samuel died after a long illness, leaving Martha and her two unmarried children to care for themselves. She sold her home and moved near her daughter, and she was busy and active until her death. Samuel and Martha were the parents of: Birdie (Arthur E. Downes), Marie (Edmund Baron), Diana (Alvin Anderson), Lillie, Esther and Samuel.
