Harry H. "Hite" Smith, 65, died Sunday 10:20 p.m. 22 March 1959 at St. Joseph Hospital Ottumwa, Iowa. He had been ill with a heart ailment since last October. Born in Wapello County 12 June 1893 son of John "Jack" Washington Smith and Nancy Ellen Cross. Had lived around and in Blakesburg all of his life.

On Thursday 18 February 1915 he married Icel Martz, who survives, also a son James Eudene, and a grandson James Harold both of Long Beach, California, one brother Frank B. of Ottumwa, and one sister Mrs. Amanda Gertrude Leonard of Blakesburg, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents John "Jack" Washington born early part of 1840's died 1918, Nancy Ellen Cross born 18 July 1865 died Sunday 1:45 a.m. 6 November 1938, two brothers Clyde born 26 Feb 1886 died Saturday 12 September 1953, Alexis born 12 January 1891 died Friday 7:30, 30 April 1948, and two sisters Grace Ellen Kelley born 22 June 1896 died 3 a.m. Sunday 19 October 1952, and Rhoda who fell down stairs when about seven and hurt herself. She was never well after that; Dr. Tait kept her at his house for a long time but could not make her well she died when 17 or 18.

He served for the past 26 years as Janitor for the Blakesburg Public School of Blakesburg, Iowa. He was a member of the Blakesburg Christian Church.

Patient and kind, he will be greatly missed by those he served at school as well as those who loved him.

Services were held at the Knedler Funeral Home, Blakesburg, Iowa Thursday 26 March 1959 at 2 p.m. in charge of the Rev. O.R. Roberts of Pleasant Corner Baptist Church. Burial was made in the Blakesburg Cemetery, Iowa. Pallbearers were Walter Kudart, Robart Kudart, Joseph A. Rokey, Lloyd Kelley, Wilson and Ralph Hannah.
