Caleb Witt Easterly was born to Casper Easterly and Elizabeth "Becky" Biebel/Bible. Caleb and his wife, Rebecca Jane Jacobs were married 07 Jan 1847 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee. They immigrated with Rebecca Jane's father and step-mother to Illinois about 1849. Caleb Witt and Rebecca Jane Easterly had 6 children, one of whom was Lewis A Easterly, buried near them.

Other Easterlys were already in Jackson County by that time and the Jacobs family remained where they landed in Pope County, Illinois, until later when they too came to Jackson County.

It was Casper Easterly who owned many acres of land around where Easterly Corners is located on Old Route 13 between Murphysboro and Carbondale and it was Casper Easterly who donated the land on which now stands Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery.
