Ruth Puffer, age 93, of Mason died Feb. 1, 2009. (Some records show her full name as Mariam Ruth LaBounty.)
She was born March 19, 1915, in Holloway, the daughter of Ted and Lena (Pocklington) LaBounty. On Dec. 24, 1936, she married Ray Puffer in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1997.
Ruth was a graduate of County Normal and Eastern Michigan University. She retired from the Tecumseh Public Schools in 1980.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh.
Ruth was a member of Chapter AJ-PEO and Mason Woman's Club.
In addition to her husband Ray, she was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Mary, and sister, June Pichler.
She is survived by two children, Dr. Raymond L. (Kathleen) Puffer of Victorville, Calif., and Miriam (Robert) Sybrandy of Lansing; four grandchildren, Ted and Faith Anne Puffer and Thomas Sybrandy and Sarah (Mark) Genovese; sister, Ellen (Clif) Stitt of Jackson, and two brothers, Raymond LaBounty of Townsend, Tenn., and Donald LaBounty of Ellenton, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh, with the Rev. William Pinches of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh. Visitation will be on Thursday beginning at 12 p.m. at the church, 211 W. Chicago Blvd., Tecumseh.
