Mary Elizabeth (Sellers) Johnson was the daughter of Samuel Howard SELLERS and Clara May BRUCE. She was born in Winterset, Madison County, Iowa, and was 11 when the family relocated to Mt. Vernon, Davison County, South Dakota.
Mary married Harlow Gilbert JOHNSON on February 14, 1924, and to them were born four children: Velma Irene, Edith Elaine, Fern Leona, and Homer Gilbert Johnson.

Mary's obituary was printed in the Daily Republic newspaper in Mtichell, South Dakota on March 13, 1989.

Madison, SD - Mary E. Johnson, 90, Madison, died Saturday, March 11, 1989, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Madison United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayne Rager officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Brookings. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Ellsworth Funeral Chapel in Madison. The family will be present at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Mary Elizabeth Sellers was born on July 27, 1898, at Winterset, Iowa to Samuel and Clara (Bruce) Sellers. She moved with her parents to a farm near Mount Vernon, SD in 1910. She graduated from high school at the School of Agriculture in Brookings. She married Harlow Gilbert Johnson on Feb. 14, 1924, at Brookings. They lived on a farm north of Brookings their entire married life. Mr. Johnson died in 1956 and she moved to Madison in 1963. She was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Homer Johnson, Gingin, W.A. Australia; three daughters: Mrs. Kermit (Velma) Zingmark, Salem, SD; Mrs. William (Edith) Larson, Issaquah, Wash; and Fern Johnson, Whittier, Calif; nine grandchldren, four great-grandchildren, and two sisters: Mrs. Glen (Leona) Hartman, Hot Springs, SD; and Mrs. Lucile Svoboda, Lombard, Ill.
