Velma Zingmark, 97, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Nov 27, 2023, at Bethany Home-Sioux Falls. Velma Johnson was born on Jan 2, 1926, in Brookings, SD, to Harlow and Mary (Sellers) Johnson. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband: Kermit; daughter: Nancy; son: David, and sister: Edith Larson. After graduating from Aggie High School, she went on to get her teaching certificate at Eastern State Normal School in Madison, SD, and taught for two years in a country school. She married Kermit Zingmark on Feb 14, 1946. Velma and Kermit farmed and raised their family on the farm near Center, SD, for 51 years. They moved to Salem, SD, in 1998, and after Kermit's death in 2007, Velma eventually moved to Sioux Falls in 2011. In 2013, she made her final move to Bethany Home, where she lived until her passing. Velma was active in her church at Center, ladies aide, Sunday school, Home extension club, Hansen/McCook bookmobile board and the Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home Board. Velma enjoyed reading books, completing crossword puzzles and she especially loved dancing with her husband, Kermit. Velma is survived by: her children: Karen Zingmark of Sioux Falls, Susan (Dale) Dachtler of Sioux Falls, John Zingmark of Ft. Collins, CO, and Loretta (Kevin) Olson of Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Jenny (Todd) Minnaert, Tina Welch, Hans (Kodi Johnson) Langenfeld, Randall (Michelle) Fenner, Christine (Nick) Olson, Sarah (Phil) Murtha and Emma Olson; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Fern Johnson of Fullerton, CA, and Homer Johnson of Bluffs Point, Western Australia; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am, on Sat, Dec 2, 2023, at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present will begin at 9:30am at the Funeral Home.. Following a luncheon, burial will be held at Center Lutheran Cemetery, rural Salem, SD. Arrangements were with the Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem [McCook Co[ SD.
