Darwin was born in Gatesville, Texas. He later left Gatesville to serve his country in the U.S. Army for four years and he served an additional year with the National Guard. He settled in Bosqueville and met his wife of 41 years, "Bunny," while working at Gulf State Paper. He later retired from Waco Rental after 27 years. His passions in life were his family, friends, fishing, hunting, farming and making people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred "Bunny" Wittie; brother, Jerry Wittie, of Tyler; step-son, Clint Herzog and wife, Shelly; step-daughter, Robin Durmon; granddaughters, Crystal Durmon and Brandi Herzog; three great-grandchildren, all of Waco; niece, Paula Fenter, of Tyler; and nephew, Sandy Creel, of Waco
