Aged Buffalo Resident Died Saturday.
Mrs. Laura Abernathy, aged 85, wife of W. F. Abernathy, died at her home at Buffalo last Saturday after an illness of several days. The deceased had experienced poor heath for the past several years and it was only at intervals that she was able to be up and going, however, her death was accelerated by a recent new development, which her failing strength was not sufficient to overcome.
Mrs. Abernathy before her marriage to Mr. W. F. Abernathy in 1861 was MIss Laura Milford, of this county. It was in this county that she made her home continuously, rearing a family of four girls and two boys. One of her sons, the late John R. B. Abernathy, of LaFayette, died a little over a year ago as a result of an attack of appendicitis. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, having grown up in this faith and lived according to its tenets through the trials and pleasures of a life of 85 years.
The funeral services were held at Lebanon Church on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. B. B. McGinty officiating, with Revs. White, Laseter and McDonald assisting. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery.
Surviving the deceased are one son, Sam Abernathy, Roanoke; four daughters, Mrs. Marcus Maley, Mrs. William House and Misses Buena and Allie Abernathy, all of Chambers County.

The many friends of Mr. Sam F. Abernathy of this city, sympathize with him in the loss of his venerable mother (Laura A. ministers had part in the services; Messrs. Lasseter and White of LaFayette, Mr. McDonald of Roanoke and Mr. Kenady of Lanett. Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the Missionary Baptist church and was loved and honored by those who knew
her. She is survived by her husband and five children.

It was in the quiet hours of the night on June 23, 1928, that the spirit of dear Aunt Awilda found its way into the portals of heaven and into the presence of her Savior and loved ones who were waiting to welcome her soul to its heavenly home. Aunt Awilda was Miss Laura Awilda Milford before her marriage years ago to W. F. Abernathy. At the time of her death she was 85 years old and for many years a devoted member of the Rock Springs Baptist church. Surviving her are the husband, W. F. Abernathy, one son, Sam Abernathy, of Roanoke, and four daughters, Mrs. J. Marcus Maley, Mrs. W. H. House, Misses Allie and Beuna Abernathy, all of Buffalo, and many other relatives and friends.
We miss her, oh so much, but we would not think of her being dead - just transplanted to a more glorious home - there to await the coming of those she loved and who loved her dearly. Dark and mysterious are the ways of Providence, yet behind the gloom which encircles it all we have the blessed assurance that we shall meet our loved ones again if we are faithful to the end. Knowing you have one in heaven from your own fireside draws heaven nearer to you.
Many know from experience how your hearts are torn and bleeding and for many days to come when the way seems dark and lonely you will long for the "touch of a vanished hand and the sound of a voice that is forever still" and you will cry out, "Oh, precious mother, come back to us, we need you so," you should not wish her back, but rather strive to so live that some day you will meet her in that heavenly home where there is no parting and all tears are wiped away.
Whose love can equal the love of a mother;
Whose the devotion so loyal and true;
Who suffers so much with such joy for another;
Who works with such pleasure as mother for you.
You hail with delight the friendship of others.
Yet where do you find a friendship like mothers,
Unbroken till death calls and life's work is through.
