First Lieut. Jean K. Lambert left Eveleth yesterday for Fort Snelling, St. Paul, after visiting over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Lambert, that city. He will leave the Minnesota fort this week for San Francisco, whence he will embark Sept. 19 for the Hawaiian Islands.
Lieutenant Lambert will be stationed at Scofield barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. Prior to coming to Fort Snelling, he served as assistant professor in military science and tactics at the Florida Military academy in St. Petersburg. He has been in the infantry branch of the U. S. army since 1936 and before then was in the U. S. air corps in Texas. He received his commission as first lieutenant last year.
He was posted to Scofield Barracks, Hawaii in 1940 as an infantry lieutenant. He transferred to the Army Air Corps in 1941, and was stationed at Bellows Field, Oahu, Hawaii, at the time of the Japanese attack in December 1941. Bellows is on the southeast corner of Oahu.
At the time of the Japanese Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941 he was going with Mary Anderson, whose father was a colonel and the commanding officer at Schofield Barracks. Jean was a weekend guest at the colonel's home. The first blast woke Jean and he in turn awakened the colonel, who thought the ammunition dump had blown up. Jean was an observer at the Battle of Midway.

Memorial Services for retired Air Force Col Jean K. Lambert of Annandale, Va., formerly of the Iron Range, will be held Wednesday at the Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Va., near Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. Lambert died Wednesday, June 14, 1995, of cancer.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1914 in Mankato, and was brought up and attended schools in Eveleth and Virginia, finishing Eveleth Junior College in 1935. His long military career began with his commission as second lieutenant, Infantry Reserve, in 1936, and included service at Fort Snelling; Florida Military Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla., and after being commissioned in the regular army, service at Scaffold Barracks, and Bellows Field, both of Hawaii, where he was stationed at the time of the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941. He married Mary Sue Anderson, daughter of Col. B. C. Anderson, U.S. Army, on Oct. 31, 1942, in Fort Bragg, N.C. He graduated in 1943 from the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and served with General MacArthur's headquarters in Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan until February, 1946, when he returned to the U.S. He was Executive Officer and Military Secretary to Frank R. McCoy, chairman of the Far Eastern Commission, from 1946 to 1948; spent four years with various NATO headquarters offices in France and Italy; spent four years at HQ, U.S. Airforce Tactical Command at Langley Field, Va.; graduated from the Air War College in 1958; served three years at Ramstein, Germany, Air Force Base, and retired Sept. 1, 1968, having served two tours of duty at HQ, U.S. Air Force in Washington for a total of six years. Colonel Lambert was on the staff of the National Security Industrial Association in Washington from 1968 to November 1979 when he retired.
He is survived by his wife Mary; a son Jeffrey of Jasper, Texas; a daughter Georgia (Richard) Randall of Yorba Linda, Calif.; a granddaughter, three brothers, Ralph of Lafayette, Calif.; Lt. Col. USAF, Ret., Dwight of Riverside, Calif.; and Roger of Minneapolis; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

At the time of the Japanese Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941 he was going with Mary Anderson, whose father was a colonel and the commanding officer at Schofield Barracks. Jean was a weekend guest at the colonel's home. The first blast woke Jean and he in turn awakened the colonel, who thought the ammunition dump had blown up. Jean was an observer at the Battle of Midway.

Memorial Services for retired Air Force Col Jean K. Lambert of Annandale, Va., formerly of the Iron Range, will be held Wednesday at the Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Va., near Arlington National Cemetery.
Mr. Lambert died Wednesday, June 14, 1995, of cancer.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1914 in Mankato, and was brought up and attended schools in Eveleth and Virginia, finishing Eveleth Junior College in 1935. His long military career began with his commission as second lieutenant, Infantry Reserve, in 1936, and included service at Fort Snelling; Florida Military Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla., and after being commissioned in the regular army, service at Scaffold Barracks, and Bellows Field, both of Hawaii, where he was stationed at the time of the Japanese attack on Dec. 7, 1941. He married Mary Sue Anderson, daughter of Col. B. C. Anderson, U.S. Army, on Oct. 31, 1942, in Fort Bragg, N.C. He graduated in 1943 from the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and served with General MacArthur's headquarters in Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan until February, 1946, when he returned to the U.S. He was Executive Officer and Military Secretary to Frank R. McCoy, chairman of the Far Eastern Commission, from 1946 to 1948; spent four years with various NATO headquarters offices in France and Italy; spent four years at HQ, U.S. Airforce Tactical Command at Langley Field, Va.; graduated from the Air War College in 1958; served three years at Ramstein, Germany, Air Force Base, and retired Sept. 1, 1968, having served two tours of duty at HQ, U.S. Air Force in Washington for a total of six years. Colonel Lambert was on the staff of the National Security Industrial Association in Washington from 1968 to November 1979 when he retired.
He is survived by his wife Mary; a son Jeffrey of Jasper, Texas; a daughter Georgia (Richard) Randall of Yorba Linda, Calif.; a granddaughter, three brothers, Ralph of Lafayette, Calif.; Lt. Col. USAF, Ret., Dwight of Riverside, Calif.; and Roger of Minneapolis; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
