Pvt. John Nelson Stinson, 18th Co., 20th Engineers, survived the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77.
Also surviving was his brother, Henry Clark Stinson, also a private in the 18th Co., 20th Engineers. (Find A Grave #12300361).Both brothers returned from World War I aboard the "Santa Paula" in May 1919. John returned as a sergeant in the 18th Co., 20th Engineers.On the "Tuscania," he listed his mother, Mrs. Annie Stinson, of Center, Kansas, as his next-of-kin. On the return voyage, he listed his mother as Mrs. Anna Stinson, of Riverton, Nebraska. His brother Henry listed the same next-of-kin information. Brothers Henry and John are buried in the same cemetery.
