Gustav came to the US from Germany through Galveston, TX in approximately 1879.
On February 2, 1885, he married Katharine "Kate" Riefkohl at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Hortontown -- north of New Braunfels--Texas at the age of 24.
Gustav and Kate subsequently moved to Flatonia, Texas, where Gustav built a seltzer bottling plant; some of his descendants own some of the "G. H. Mehner/Flatonia, Texas" bottles from that bottling plant (and are on a continuous search for more).
On November 24, 1900, a cyclone hit Flatonia, Texas, extensively damaging Gustav's seltzer bottling plant, his stables and his home.
Less than 2 weeks later, on December 5, 1900 Gustav died in Flatonia, TX from "Bright's Disease" (kidney failure) at the age of 40 years leaving his wife, Katharine "Kate" Riefkohl Mehner (1866-1951) with 6 children - 5 sons and the last, a daughter -- my grandmother, Anna Frances Mehner, who was born the year Gustav died on 16 January 1900.
The 5 sons were:
(1) Carl Ferdinand Mehner (1889-1961);
(2) William Richard Mehner (1891-1972),
(3) Herbert Paul Mehner (1893-1949),
(4) Otto Edward Mehner (1896-1918)and
(5) George Herman Mehner (1898-1948).
The siblings of Gustav totally unknown -- possibly a RICHARD MEHNER is a brother pursuant to probate papers after his death.
I have been searching for Gustav's family for over 30 years. Would love to communicate with any of the descendants of Gustav's family.
