Sarah was the daughter of John BEARD (1794-1854) and Sophia MORE (1801-1879). She was the sister of John M., Permelia, Mary Jane, Rachel, William, Eli, Jemima, and Alexander. On October 13, 1842, in Carroll County, Indiana, she married William NICE (1821-1900). Nine children were born to the union: Sylvester, Elizabeth, John, Philander, Lydia, Martha, Amanda, William, and George Franklin.
