William Andrew Beard was the son of John Beard (1794-1854) and Sophia More (1801-1879). He first married Phoebe Agnes Michael in 1853 and six children were born to this union (James Arden, Ardilla Jane, Alva, Harriet Roena, Edith A, and Bertha Louise Beard). After Phoebe died, William married Florella Jane Henderickson in 1878. Eight children were born to this union (Mary S, Jessie Gertrude, Aaron John, Josephine, Loyd, Bertha May, William Ray, and Eli Edward Beard.
At the time of Willian’s birth, his family was living in Darke County, Ohio. By 1840 William was living in Carroll County, Indiana and was still there in 1850. William and his family were living in Maxfield, Bremer, Iowa by 1860 it was here that he joined the Civil War on 2 Dec 1863. The family remained in Iowa at least through 1870. By 1880 they had moved to Eden, Todd, Minnesota. The family was living in Crow Wing, Minnesota by 1894 when their last child, Eli Edward Beard, was born. They were living in Sylamore, Stone, Arkansas by 1900 and it is there where William died.
