Arthur Nelson, 81, of Strandquist, MN died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at his home in Strandquist, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN with Rev. Curtis Matz officiating. Burial will follow at Westaker Cemetery in Newfolden, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Hans E. Lian American Legion Post 444 of Middle River, MN.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until time of services on Tuesday at church.
Arthur Raymond Nelson was born June 1, 1926 on the family farm in Dudley Township, Clearwater County, MN the Nels and Eva Emily (Willard) Nelson. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Clearwater County. In the early 1930's the family moved to Oslo, MN and later to New Maine Township, near Newfolden, MN area. There Art attended the Blackberg School.
Art entered into service with the United States Army in March of 1945 and served in Korea. He was Honorably Discharged in January of 1947 and returned to live in the Newfolden, MN area. He worked several jobs and became a very good electrician.
On September 5, 1950 he married Evelyn Benson in Newfolden, MN. To this union six children were born, Dawn, Debra, Todd, Robert, Kimberly and Melissa. They lived in Middle River, MN for a short time and eventually moved to California. Evelyn died December 19, 1973 at the age of 43 and Art moved back to Newfolden in November of 1976. These were some very difficult years for the family.
He worked for Peterson Electric out of Greenbush, MN and Benson Construction out of Stephen, MN and did his own electrical work after that. There were a lot of people in the country that could say that "Art hooked them up".
On October 22, 1998 he married JoAnn Johnson in Middle River, MN and they made their home in Strandquist, MN where they have continued to reside. JoAnn was the mother of five children, Clarinda, Bonnie, Bradley, Wade and Wendy.
Art enjoyed going out to eat at the many different restaurants in the area. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, listening to country music, picking on the guitar, and mostly loved spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Hans E. Lian American Legion Post 444 in Middle River, MN.
