Quinton Abel was born on July 16, 1845 to parents James (b. @1821) and Mary (b. @1821) Abel. His known siblings include: Camden (b. @1842), William (b. @1843), Benton (b. @1846), and Esau (b. @1849). According to the U.S. Census, he lived in Patoka Twp., Dubois Co., IN in 1850. Major Henry F. Perry's 1906 regimental roster does not list his exact date of enlistment in Company K, but he was present at the time of the regimental muster out on July 15, 1865 in Louisville, KY. At the time of the 1870 & 1880 U.S. Censuses, Abel lived in Celestine, Hall Twp., Dubois Co., IN where he worked as a farmer.

In his post-war years, he was a member of Indiana G.A.R. Post #15 (Morgan Post) located in Petersburg, Pike Co., IN. His last name is mistakenly spelled "Able" in the G.A.R. post records. Quinton applied for a federal pension on April 13, 1888 (app. #650,022; cert. #642,714 - Indiana). He was married to Margaret A. (b. May 18, 1845) and had the following known children: Sidney (b. @1870), Phoebe P (b. @1872), Martha A. (b. @1874), David T. (b. @1876), and William Calvin (b. @1879). Abel died on Aug 26, 1906 at age 61. His wife Margaret applied for a widow's pension on Oct. 1, 1906 (app. #856,101; cert. #620,131 - Indiana).
