Lucille was a kind and generous, no-nonsense lady. She was our superhero. She raised three children, was a great cook, baker, gardener, seamstress, quilter and more. She was a Sunday School teacher at Rye Hill and Trinity in Pocola and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hackett. She became a cattle farmer when her husband bought a farm in 1967. She could run the tractors and cows with the best of them. She loved to crochet, read and listen to southern gospel music.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Newton of the home and Pam Coles of Oklahoma City; one son, James (JerriJune) Newton of St. James, Missouri; one granddaughter, Amber (Matthew) Newkirk of California; one grandson, Joshua Newton of Kansas; a great grandchild, Liam Newkirk of California and a sister, Venita Ragsdale of Cabot, Arkansas.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Friday, February 25 at Mountain View Cemetery in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Thursday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 11300 N. Rodney Parham Rd., Suite 205A, Little Rock, AR 72212 or any breast cancer foundation.
