Charles Edward Baker, 76, a resident of Caglesville, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at his home.

He was born June 6, 1932, in the Buttermilk Community to Robert Alston and Zadie Elvira Tate Baker. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and was a carpenter by trade. He loved fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, photography, and writing short stories. He was a member of the Rehoboth Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Smith; a brother, Harley Baker; and a grandson, Randall Turk.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Reid Baker of Caglesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, David E. and Diane Baker of Center Valley and Virgil Iver and Rosa Gratner-Baker; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vickie and Terry Lunningham of Russellville and Julia L. Baker of Russellville; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwight Lemoyne and Linda Baker of Russellville; his twin sister, Charlene Whitaker of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Thelma Baker of the Buttermilk Community; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Anthony Devore and the Rev. W. A. Berg officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rogers Rye Post 2283, will be in Tate Cemetery near Appleton under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Wayne, Marshall, and Brian Baker, Ramon and Nathan Darter, Paul Larson, and Eric Harris.
