Born 'Sonora Caroline Blanchard,' she was a twin of Nora Emily. They were born at Wheaton and graduated from the college their father founded there.
She married educator Thomas Eugene Kennedy of San Jose, California in December of 1875 and spent nearly two decades in that state. After her husband's untimely death in 1893, she returned to Illinois.
Caroline appears on the 1900 census at Milton, where she first settled, with her children James Blanchard, Mary Helen, Caroline A., Nora E., Thomas E., and Josephine Kennedy.
She only appears in later records as 'Caroline,' and is listed as such on her death records. She was a resident of Chicago at the time of her death.
