Floyd Armstrong was born in Lawrence County, near Wren Alabama. His family lived in the Bankhead Forest in the late 1800's where his father manage a Pencil MFG Company. His family moved to Cedar Creek Community, South of Hartselle, Alabama around 1920. He served in Georgia PVT US Army War World I.

He had eleven siblings include himself:
