Esther was born on July 8, 1907 in Hayward, Wisconsin, the daughter of Andrew and Christine (Nelson) Olson. Esther graduated from the teachers' training course at Hayward High School. She began her teaching career in the rural schools of southern Sawyer County. Every summer she would enroll in college courses until she earned her Bachelor's degree from Superior State University in 1970. She also did graduate work at University of Wisconsin in Madison, at Ball State Teachers' College, at St. Scholastica, and at the University of Chicago. She taught in public elementary schools throughout Wisconsin including Hayward, Blair, Mequon, New Richmond, and, for the last 27 years of her career, in Beloit. Esther was an avid reader and enjoyed poetry. She was always anxious to read the latest best sellers but her favorite book was "Gone With The Wind".

Esther is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Alfred, Norman, Rudolph, Harry and William; and four sisters: Anna Olson, Louise Lent, Josephine Olson, and Nina Robinson.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward. A celebration of Esther's life will be held in the spring of 2007 at a time, date and place to be announced.
