Rudolph A. Olson, 94, a resident of Hayward, died Tuesday, April 5, at the Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, Ill.

He was born February 27, 1911, in Hayward, the son of Andrew and Christine (Nelson) Olson. He was on active duty with the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, serving in the Pacific Theatre where he earned a Purple Heart and battle stars for Milne Bay, New Guinea-Leyle, Philippines-Luzon and Philippines Battle for Manila. He married Katharine Smith on Feb. 27, 1946, in Chicago. She died in 1992. He lived and worked in Chicago for 50 years as a manager in the auto parts division of Chrysler Motors.

He is survived by his children, William (Lynn) Olson, Cecelia (Raymond) Solner, Rudolph Olson Jr., George Olson, Edward C. (Mary) Olson, and Harry J. Olson; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther Olson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers and sisters Alfred, Norman, Anna, Louise Lent, Josephine, Harry, William and Nina Robinson.

Funeral: A service was conducted April 11 at the First Lutheran Church in Hayward. Pastor Carl Bruihler officiated.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
