John L. Alsop, age 61, affectionately known as "Stickman," departed this life on Friday, December 28, 2008. Born on August 16, 1947, in Fredericksburg, John attended school in Fredericksburg, where he graduated from Walker-Grant High School. He joined the U. S. Air Force after graduating from high school and loyally served his country for six years. Stickman was a devoted employee at General Motors-Powertrain in Spotsylvania County for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) in Fredericksburg. John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Frances Alsop; a son Jason Alsop, a daughter, Joycelyn Brown, his mother, Betty Alsop, four sisters, Marguerite Fennell, Herdinia Catlett, Kathleen Arrington, and Jennie Rambert; four grandchildren and a host of family and friends. John's brother, Ceasar A. "E-Moe" Alsop, preceded him in death. The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009, at the A. L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, where the funeral will take place Friday, January 2, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery with military honors.
