In December of 1846, Benjamin married Mary Knapton, daughter of William and Rebecca (Stanford) Knapton of Ambrosden.

Mr. John Allen (died at the age of 2 on his way to America.)
Ms. Mary Allen (died at age 8.)
The family immigrated to Prince William County, Virginia around 1857.
On 4 March 1859, his wife Mary died from Dysentery.
Not long after her death, he met another recent widow, Harriett Penn, whom was also born in England. On 1 November 1860, they married.
This gave Benjamin two stepchildren; John William Austin and Margaret Austin.
Benjamin and Harriet would have three children together;

In 1865, tragedy struck the family. In March, baby Edward died from Consumption. The following month, Harriet also died from Consumption. Then in October, Benjamin's 8-year-old daughter Mary, died from Diptheria.
Benjamin raised the remaining children with the help of his eldest daughter, Ann.
He was an extremely loving father and grandfather.
He passed away after a short illness at the age of 54.
