"Miss Florence E Whittier, nineteen years old, a grandniece of the Quaker poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, left the business school she attended in Boston at 2 o'clock on the afternoon of Jan. 13, and stepped into the street. From that moment to this not a word has been heard from her, and all Boston wonders and guesses. The police and professional and amateur detectives are searching for her in Canada, as far south as Cuba, and even in England. It is a case that rivals the Arnold mystery, but in this instance there is no clue upon which to work. She had no lover, an elopement seems out of the question, and there was nothing in her past life to indicate any motive for suicide."

cause of death: drowned
(missing since 13 Jan & found 15 Mar in the Charles River)
