Ozro Harold Merritt 73, of Afton died Friday, Aug 12, 1983 at Salt Lake City of heart failure during surgery. Funeral services were held Monday Aug 15, at 12 noon at the Afton Second LDS Ward. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery.
He was born June 14, 1910 at Bedford, Wyoming to George William and Martha Nora Michaelson Merritt. He lived in
Bedford on a farm and attended school there.
In his youth he hauled milk to the creamery and hauled logs out of the canyon. He worked for various creameries. In 1946 he started his own plumbing and heating business in Afton. He had a farm in Grover and enjoyed working on it.
He married Clarissa Kennington on Sept 3, 1931 in the Salt Lake LdS Temple.
He was a member of the LDS Church and held various positions including 2nd counselor in the bishopric, stake YMMIA president, high priest group leader, Sunday School counselor, stake missionary, scout master, Sunday School teacher and merit badge counselor.
Survivors include his wife, Clarissa Kennington Merritt of Afton, sons George Merritt of Bountiful Utah, Harold Merritt of Pinedale Wyo. Von Merritt of Grover and daughters Mrs Arvil (Clarice) Wolfley of Bedford, Brothers, Ray Merritt, Afton; Joseph Merritt Thayne; Clarence Merritt, Salt Lake City; sister Mrs Jack (Nora) Kellersberger, Afton; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
