Joseph Astling Sr., 86, for 25 years a resident of Sycamore, and esteemed by all his acquaintenances, passed from this life at his home on East Exchange Street this Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, at 6 o'clock after an illness of two weeks of heart disease.
Mr. Astling was a son of William and Ann (Baker) Astling, and was born in Harby County, Nottinghamshire, England on Feb. 12, 1844. He came to America in 1889 and made his home in Chicago until 1905, when he came to Sycamore where he had since resided, and where he was engaged in farming until he retired because of his advanced years.
He was married to Ann Lawrence at Leeds, England, on Sept. 19, 1872. Mrs. Astling survives together with the following named children: Fred of Constantine, Mich.; Ida Mason of Walnut Grove, Minn.; Joe W., of Rockford; Mrs. Sara Sabin of Burlington, Ill.; George, John, Harry, Mrs. Lizzie Pratt and Fannie, all of Sycamore.
Mr. Astling was a consistent member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held at the home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
