Contributor: #49347870) - Coon Rapids Enterprise - May 7, 1948 Page 1 - Edwin B. Brown, 92, one of the oldest residents of the Star community, died at St. Anthony hospital at Carroll Monday evening. He had been in failing health for the past two and a half years, but his final illness was brief. He entered the hospital Monday.
Funeral services were held at Pleasant Ridge Friends church, of which Mr. Brown was a member, Thursday afternoon. The pastor, the Rev. Guy Harvey, officiated. Burial was in the Coon Rapids cemetery.
Edwin Beckett Brown, son of Henry and Faith Brown who came to this country from England, was born Jan. 9, 1856 in Bureau county, Illinois.
The Brown family came to Carroll county in 1884, locating in Richland township. At the time of his death Mr. Brown had been living on the same farm 7 miles north of Coon Rapids for 55 years.
He was married March 15, 1889 to Lanie Laurinda Stevens, who died in 1900. They were the parents of three children, all of whom survive: Irvin Brown, at home; Mrs. Claus Hartwigsen, (Viola), Scranton, and Mrs. Lyle Vaughn (Naomi), Des Moines.
August 21,1902, he married Delia Cashatt at Carroll, who survives, as does their daughter, Mrs. Leon Fitzgerald (Florence) of Berkley, Calif.
Altogether there were eleven children in the Brown family, five of whom died in infancy.
Deceased is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Brown was the last of a family of 11 children. Mr. Brown will be remembered as one of the county's most successful farmers and businessmen. He was a fine citizen and a good neighbor.
