Katie Raye Westerfield Hicks was born August 30, 1927, to Isaac "Ike" Westerfield and Lorie Clayborne Westerfield in DeKalb, Kemper County, MS.

She became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Preston, MS, at an early age. She later moved her membership to Center Ridge Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS, where she served on the Usher Board.

She received her education from the Sinai School in Preston, MS, and Whisenton High School in DeKalb, MS.

On February 23, 1946, she married Dove Lamar Hicks, the son of Till Hicks and Anna Gully Hicks, who was also a native of Kemper County, MS. Ten children, five daughters and five sons, were born to their union.

She died November 29, 2006, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Lauderdale County, MS, at 2:30 a.m. at the age of 79.

She was the Wife of Dove Lamar Hicks; the Mother of Eunice Raye Hicks, Lamar Hicks, Lavell Hicks, Armerdale Hicks, Nancy Anna Hicks Grady, Henry Isaac Hicks, Kem Tito Hicks, Michael Jerome Hicks, Cyntranell Hicks, and LaTonya Hicks Griffin; the Step Mother of Myrtha Lee Gully Alexander, Cather Ree Gully, Marcie Johnson, Dorothy Mosley Hickman, and Otis Hampton; the Daughter of Isaac "Ike" Westerfield and Lorie Clayborne Westerfield; the Sister of Maggie Westerfield Cox Spivey, Nevida Westerfield Jack, Vivian Marie Westerfield Roberts, Ermer Westerfield Wilcox, Laura Westerfield Davis Randolph, Lucille Rush Cole, Overa Rush, Alice Henson Peebles, Leo Westerfield, Johnny Isaac Westerfield, James Willis Westerfield, Nemiah Westerfield, Calvin Westerfield, and Bill Rush; the Paternal Granddaughter of Willis Westerfield and Winnie Jackson Westerfield; and the Maternal Granddaughter of Smith Clayborne and Katie Haynes Clayborne.
