Maggie Westerfield Cox Spivey was born March 2, 1921, in DeKalb, Kemper County, MS, to Isaac "Ike" Westerfield and Lorie Clayborne Westerfield.

She became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Preston, MS, at an early age. After moving to Chicago, she joined Metropolitan Baptist Church where she served on the Mother's Board and as a nurse's aide. She later moved to Davenport, Scott County, IA, and joined Progressive Baptist Church.

First, she married Gilbert Cox, the son of Willis H. Williamson and Pensacole "Pensie" Cox Williamson, who was also a native of Kemper County, MS, and they had two children, both daughters. She later married Willie Spivey, Jr., and they had one child, a son.

She died June 9, 2006, at Lutheran Nursing Home in Davenport, IA, at the age of 85.

She was the wife of Gilbert Cox and Willie Spivey, Jr.; the Mother of Annie Myrtle Cox Stewart, Bettye Alice Cox Coleman, and Willie Anthony Spivey; the Daughter of Isaac "Ike" Westerfield and Lorie Clayborne Westerfield; the Sister of Katie Raye Westerfield Hicks, Nevida Westerfield Jack, Vivian Marie Westerfield Roberts, Ermer Westerfield Wilcox, Laura Westerfield Davis Randolph, Lucille Rush Cole, Overa Rush, Alice Henson Peebles, Leo Westerfield, Johnny Isaac Westerfield, James Willis Westerfield, Nemiah Westerfield, Calvin Westerfield, and Bill Rush; the Paternal Granddaughter of Willis Westerfield and Winnie Jackson Westerfield; and the Maternal Granddaughter of Smith Clayborne and Katie Haynes Clayborne.
