At the home of his daughter, in this city (Seward, Nebraska), on Wednesday, August 1, 1894, of apoplexy, George Pickrel, aged 71 years, 5 months and 8 days died.
Another home suddenly stricken and the aged wife is bereft of the companion of her youth, the one whom to her has been her all - her one love - is no more. About 9 o;clock on Wednesday morning, while passing his daughter's house he stopped there for a few moments talk and to tell her of a contemplated visit to Illinois next week, and was stricken with apoplexy and never regained consciousness.
Deceased was born in Jackson county, Ohio, February 23, 1823, and moved to Knox county, Ill., in 1836. On February 15, 1841, he was united in marriage to Ann Marie Richmond. Fourteen children were born to them - seven of each sex. Six boys and five girls are yet living to mourn his sudden death.
Mr. Pickrel came to Seward in 1873, and he had only lived in three states and in but three counties in these states during his term of life on this earth. He was well known in this county and enjoyed the friendship of all, and his death comes as a sad blow to those whGeorgeo knew him best. The funeral services were held at his late home in this city yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. T. A. Hull officiating, and were largely attended. With the exception of one daughter, who was too ill to come from her Illinois home, all the children were present at the funeral.
