John was the son of Stephen & Maryem (Martin) Hill and, as a young man, he was brought to central Ohio from Pennsylvania by his parents. On October 18, 1821, John was married to Esther Marsh in Franklin County, OH. The couple can be found on the 1830 Federal Census living in Concord Township, Delaware County, OH. John & Esther reportedly parented 13 children between the years of 1822 & 1846: Joseph D. Hill, Martha Hill (twin), Matthew B. Hill (twin), Clarinda Hill, Henry Delmar Hill, Almina Hill (also buried at Hill Cemetery), Claud Hill, Mary Jane Hill, Sarah Hill (also buried at Hill Cemetery), Lucinda A. Hill, William W. Hill, Hugh M. Hill, & Esther C. Hill. John can be found on the following federal censuses: 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, & 1870 - always a resident of Concord Township, Delaware County, OH, and always listing his occupation as "farmer." Following the death of Esther, John was married to one Mary Waggoner (or Wagoner or Warner) in Delaware County, OH, on September 10. 1861. Mary outlived John by about 15 years and she died in 1903, probably in Grundy County Illinois.
