Leona Guderjohn, 93, Fargo , formerly of Columbus and Minot , died Sunday, November 09, 2008 in Bethany Homes, Fargo.

Leona was born on June 7, 1915, the oldest of nine children born to Lars and Jenny (Kihle) Horntvedt on the family farm near Columbus , ND . She was raised and educated in the Columbus area, attending the Brookside Country School .

On January 14, 1942, Leona was united in marriage to Carl Guderjohn at Pleasant Prairie Church in rural Columbus.

Leona was affectionately known as Grandma Howdy. Years ago, when she visited her daughter Diana's home, she would knock on the door and as soon as she entered, would say, 'Howdy!' When her 2 year old granddaughter, Keri, was told that grandma was coming for a visit she looked at her mom and asked, 'Howdy?' and the name stuck. Staff at Bethany Homes even came to call her Grandma Howdy.

Leona loved to take care of her family and help wherever she could. She loved to iron and her shirts were masterpieces. They didn't simply hang on the hanger...they hung at attention. She was well known for her rosettes and was asked to demonstrate her magic at the Norsk Hostfest. They were not only delicious but beautiful!

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus and attended Bethany Lutheran Church , Minot , Sons of Norway, and a past president of the VFW Auxiliary in Columbus .
