Doyle E. "Red" Fleener, age 81 passed away Thursday morning November 27, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Morgantown.


He was born November 4, 1927 in Martinsville to the late Charlie M. & Flossie E. (Pearson) Fleener. Red married his loving wife of 54 years Kathryn J. (Norman) Fleener on November 25, 1954 in Brown County. She survives.


He will be remembered by his two sons: Joseph (Helen) Fleener & Rev. Andy (Dionne) Fleener all of Morgantown; one brother: Fredrick "Peanut" Fleener of Paragon; two grandchildren: Jessica & Ty Fleener both of Morgantown.


Red was preceded in death by a son: James Fleener and two brothers: Russell & Delbert Fleener.


He was a 1945 graduate of Morgantown High School where he was the starting guard for the Trojans Basketball team that won the Tri-County Championship that year. After graduation he went on to serve as a Corporal with United States Army during the Korean War where he was awarded two Bronze Stars.


Red retired in 1987 from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis as a Job Setter after 30 years of service.


He was a member of the Morgantown Wesleyan Church since the 1950's and attended the Mt. Nebo Community Church in Martinsville. Red was a loyal fan of Indian Creek High School Athletics and helped coached his sons Little League Baseball teams durning the 1970's. He enjoyed fishing, hunting squirrel & rabbit, mushroom hunting, cutting wood and gardening. Red was a fan of the New York Yankees baseball team.


The Rev. Andy Fleener will conduct a funeral service 10:30 am Monday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Martinsville Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Honor Guards.
