Curtis Eugene Worthy, 80, of Burlington died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born April 25, 1928, in Mahaska County, he was the son of Herbert Edwin and Jesse Ellen Brubaker Worthy. On April 2, 1950, he married Donna Marie Nichols in Chariton.
Mr. Worthy had farmed in the Grinnell area. He was then a foreman in the gas meter repair shop for Iowa Southern Utilities for 33 years, retiring in 1993.
He and his wife moved to Burlington in 1960. He was a 1946 graduate of Grinnell High School in Grinnell and was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
He enjoyed attending auctions, square dancing at Circle Square B, flowers, gardening and having coffee and doughnuts while visiting with friends.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Worthy of Indianapolis, Ind., John Worthy of Frederick, S.D., and Duane Worthy of Danville; one daughter, Marlys Casey of West Burlington; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Rudkin of Wichita, Kan., Adah Hunziker of Pella, and Donna Holland of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Worthy will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
