BALCH RITES HELD MONDAY

Long-time County Resident Dies at Daughter's Home


Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon for Mrs. Mary Frances Balch, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H[enry] L[afayette] {Beatrice Della} Routon, at Soper, on April 6 at 3 o'clock a. m. She had been ill about two weeks.

Mrs. Balch was born July 19, 1859, in McNairy County, Tennessee. When only a small child, her parents moved to Arkansas.

She was married to N[ewton] S[ol] Balch March 21, 1880, in Hollywood, Arkansas. To this union six children were born, three of whom are still living.

Mr. and Mrs. Balch came to Oklahoma in 1889 and settled at Sugar Creek, later moving to the Big Springs community, where they lived until her death. She was a member of the Methodist church at Nelson.

She is survived by three children, M[arvin] G[uy] Balch, Nelson; Mrs. H[enry] L[afayette] {Beatrice Della} Routon, Soper, and Mrs. Ray {Kate Esther} Smith, Boswell; two brothers, Gus and Jack Atkins of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and one sister, Mrs. Nannie J. Barnes, Palestine, Texas.

She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Sugar Creek cemetery with Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers in charge of arrangements.
