Fred Lavine, 59, who has been head of the village garbage collection department for a number of years, dropped dead in the office of Dr. U. R. Plante Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. He worked all day Wednesday for the village and that evening while working in his garden at his home on South Avenue, off Maple Street, he became ill. He drove his car to the doctor's office and as he stepped inside the door he collapsed and died almost immediately.
Mr. Lavine was born in Massena on June 15, 1871, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lavine. A number of years ago he married Kate Carbino and she died last spring.
Surviving are one adopted son; two sisters and one brother.
