William H. Johnson Dead at Age of 83
William H. Johnson, 83, Black River Road, formerly of 600 Hilltop Towers, died this morning in Mercy Hospital.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northern New York Heart Association.
Surviving are three sons, Richard W., Charles J., and Roger F., all of Watertown; two daughters, Mrs. Harlow (June) Hunt, Watertown, and Mrs. Wilfred (Beverly) VanEpps, Scottsville; 28 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie White, and Mrs. Verta Reilly, both of Watertown; and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, John, Harold, Arthur and Clarence, and two sisters, Mamie Ellsworth and Pansy, died before him.
He was born Dec. 11, 1902, in Carthage, a son of John and Minnie Buck Johnson. He moved to Watertown at the age of 7, and attended Watertown schools.
He was married to Pauline Marino on Aug. 11, 1927, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John Sullivan officiating. Mrs. Johnson died Dec. 7, 1982.
Mr. Johnson was employed as a printer in the composing room of the Watertown Daily Times for 24 years, and later worked for the New York Air Brake Co., where he retired after 30 years of service.
