Maxwell Ross was the son of Ezekiel and Ruth Maxwell Ross, twin of Elizabeth "Betsy" Ross Jaques and husband of Maria Williams Ross. He was the father of Harvey Smith, John Newton, and Mary Elizabeth Ross. He arrived in Butler County in 1813 with his family and settled in Hanover Township on Section 31.
