Franklin County Indiana Information:

The Franklin County Public Library District consists of two libraries -- the main library branch in Brookville at 919 Main Street and another branch library in Laurel at 200 N. Clay Street. The Libraries are open Monday -Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am - 6pm, and Saturday 9am-3pm. Franklin County information in our collection at the Brookville library currently contains over 600 vertical files on various topics including surnames and local history topics. We also have 75 family histories in bound format as well as a small collection of family bibles, high school annuals, indexes to county vital records and genealogical notes that reference items that were in the newspapers from 1827 - 1900, and a collection of local newspapers on micro film from 1833 to the present day. Our genealogy and local history rooms are open the same hours as the libraries. We offer free of charge, to any patrons visiting either facility, the opportunity to use Ancestry Library Edition or Heritage Quest. The sites are available on any computer in both libraries. The ranch library at Laurel has duplicate copies of the vital record indexes and a few editions of the microfilmed newspapers. Each library has a few unique items in heir collection, so feel free to call ahead and see which library might best serve your needs if visiting our area. Any genealogy and local history inquiries will be answered on a first come first serve basis. You can email the head of the genealogy department at [email protected], or via snail mail at Brookville Library, 919 Main Street, Brookville, Indiana 47012. Feel free to call at 765-647-4031 fro questions concerning obituaries or our collection as a whole. We do not charge for review of in-house records; the only charges are for hard copies (10 cents per page) and any postage incurred for mailing expenses. Visit our library site at:
