Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a D.A.R. service at 4:30 p.m., Friday, August 17, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, at the First United Church of Christ in Tipton, with Rev. Tommi Boeder officiating. Burial will be in the Red Oak Cemetery, rural Tipton, Iowa. A luncheon will be served following the services at the Red Oak Church.
Verna Olive Hale was born September 4, 1914, in Buchanan County, near Lamont, the daughter of George and Sadie (Watkins) Hale. She attended country school there, until the family moved to a farm near Delhi. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1931. She moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. where she lived with her sister, Mildred Houck and worked in a restaurant for several years. She moved to Cedar County, where her parents had since moved to. She married Vernon Paul Kimberling on December 24, 1935, in Rock Island, Illinois. Together they farmed in Cedar County, Red Oak Township their entire married life. Vernon preceded her in death on February 22, 1982.
She was a member of Red Oak King's Daughters and the Red Oak Presbyterian Church until it closed, and then attended the United Church of Christ in Tipton, and the DAR. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, reading, walking almost every day, going to Hardee's and when she was 102 years old, she obtained her driver's license again.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia (Howard) Osborn of Midland, OH, and Joyce (Robert) Kuhnle of Marengo; one son, Victor Kimberling of Mechanicsville; seven grandchildren, Kent Osborn, Scott (Jeannie) Osborn, Vicki (Tom) Duske, Kevin (Elissa) Kuhnle, Craig (Cassy Jaeger) North, Pamela (John) Freeman and Zach Kimberling; six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Dalton, Aaliyah, Austin, Stephanie and Michael; and four step-great-grandchildren, Nora, Carly, Claire and Casen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mildred Houck and Evelyn Taral, one brother, Carl Hale and three nephews, Robert and Wayne Taral and Lyle Hale.
