Alfred was the youngest child of Judge Samuel Sanders LINGO and his second wife Nancy PERRIN. They had seven children together. And Judge LINGO had fourteen other children by his first wife. So Alfred was the the youngest of twenty-one children!

He was on the 1870 Census in Russell, Macon Co., Missouri with his parents.
His father died in 1877 in College Mound, Macon Co., Missouri. Alfred was 9 years old.
Alfred was on the 1880 Census with is mother in Chariton, Macon Co., Missouri. Alfred was a 12 year old "Laborer".

11 APR 1895 he married his niece's sister-in-law, Martha Elizabeth (BROOKS) MORTON in Bell Co., Texas. Mattie had been married before and had a daughter, Edna M. MORTON.

6 DEC 1895 Alfred's 70 year-old mother, Nancy (PERRIN) LINGO, died and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, too. So she may have been living with her son.

Alfred, Mattie, and Edna are on the 1900 Census in Temple, Bell Co., Texas. Alfred was a "conductor"

21 DEC 1907 Edna died suddenly of pneumonia at home in Temple. She was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Moberly, Randolph Co., Missouri. By this time she was going by the name Edna LINGO.

In 1909, 1910, 1911, 1920, 1930, and 1940 Alfred and Mattie are on the Census and in City Directories living at 508 North 3rd Street, Temple, Bell Co., Texas. Alfred was a "conductor" and "engineer" for the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway during these years.
