WAYNE FOSTER DIES SUDDENLY

CALLED BY DEATH ON JULY 12 AT HIS HOME IN LINCOLN TOWNSHIP

Thurston Wayne Foster, son of Manuel and Sarah Foster, was born in Illinois, December 19, 1855, and passed from this life at the family home in Lincoln township, Lucas county, Iowa, July 12, 1927, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 23 days. Mr. Foster had not enjoyed the best of health for the past few months but had been able to attend to his usual duties up until the day of his death and his sudden going was a shock to his family and friends.

On October 1, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Frances Barnett, at the home of Rev. Hixon, east of Chariton, and for more than fifty years they have trod life's pathway together, having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last October.

The first ten years of their married life were spent in Lucas county, and then they moved to Reno county, Kansas, where they resided eight years. In 1894 they returned to Lucas county, remaining sixteen years, when they again took up their abode in the Sunflower State for ten years. They then came back to Iowa to spend the remainder of life among the scenes of youth.

Thirteen children were born to them, one dying in infancy; all the others survive him. They are Gilbert, Roy, Thurston and Mrs. Lola Clowser, of Chariton; Charles W., of Denver; Mrs. Bernice Victor, of Alden, Kansas; Mrs. Bessie Dora, of St. Johns, Kansas; Mrs. Alma Threlkeld, of Hutchinson, Kansas; Mrs. Viola Conklin, of New York City; Leslie, of Chicago; Mrs. Iva Hefner, of St. Francis, Kansas; and Mrs. Ila Hefner, of Wray, Colorado.

The devoted wife, these children, twenty-three grandchildren and one great grand child are left to mourn the loss of a loving companion, father and grandfather. He is also survived by three brothers, Douglas and Frank, of Chariton, and Charles, of Des Moines; and four sisters, Mrs. Rebecca J. Johnston, Mrs. George Brown and Misses Stella and Eva Foster, all of Chariton, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Foster was converted in a revival at the Zion Methodist church in Pleasant township when a young man. He possessed a quiet, unassuming nature but was a man of strict integrity, a good neighbor and a good citizen. It is such characters as he that have sone so much toward shaping the destiny of the great commonwealth, and as the years go by the influence of his life will live on in the lives of his sons and daughters.

It has been a matter of great comfort to Mrs. Foster to have with her through this time of sorrow, her aged sister, Mrs. Hannah Barnett Foster, of Penalosa, Kansas, wife of the late Weller Foster, who arrived Wednesday. The two sisters had married brothers and their lives have been interlocked in an unusual way through the joys and sorrows of rearing large families in the pioneer days of Kansas, far from neighbors or railroads.

Funeral services were conducted at the family home by Rev. Walter McKinley on Sunday morning at ten o'clock, followed by interment in the Oxford cemetery. The pall bearers were his two brothers, Charles and Frank, two nephews, Roscoe and Leo Foster, and two grandsons, Wayne and Lloyd Foster. All of his children were present at the last rites except one son, Charles W., of Denver, Colorado, and one daughter, Mrs. Iva Hefner of St. Francis, Kansas, who were unable to be present on account of sickness.

The community has lost a good citizen and his demise is greatly deplored. The sympathy of all will be extended to the bereaved ones.
