Edwin Nelson Allred was born in Garden City Utah, March 5, 1883 the fifth child of a family of nine boys and one girl. The family lived at St Charles, Idaho until Edwin was 5 years old, then moved to Montpelier, Idaho.
After living in Provo for a short time, the family moved to Star Valley in 1894, bringing a few cows and chickens. The following July Edwin's father died leaving his mother with nine boys to provide for. They lived in a log house and Edwin attended school in dirt roof log house. He quit school early in the spring to work. Edwin always attended Sunday School and his mother taught him the principles of the Gospel at an early age.
At the age of 18, he met Sarah Jane Nield, and they were married two years later, Sept 25, 1903 in the Logan LDS Temple. Their home was blessed with three daughters and six sons.
With four children in the family Edwin was called to fulfill a two-year mission to the Eastern States. With not enough money to pay his fare on the horse and buggy stage to Montpelier, they were forced to sell a team of horses and buggy. These funds, together with donations received at his farewell party were nearly enough to finance his mission.
Edwin fulfilled many callings in the LDS Church, probably the most important being bishop of the Afton South Ward for five years.
After his mission Edwin went into the sheep raising business. Their grazing land was in Salt Canyon at Allred Flat, named after Edwin and his 2 brothers. Following this he went into the automobile business and was agent for Chevrolet cars. He built a garage in Afton. After purchasing dry farm land the family prospered throughout the years.
In the winter of 1945, Edwin and his wife fulfilled a six month mission together in California.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on Sept. 25, 1953 by returning to the Logan Temple accompanied by twelve couples of their children and grandchildren.
