Aged 64y 30 days; born in Ohio

Died, at his home, 727 South Fourth street, at 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Feb. 17, 1901, of liver trouble, Hon. Rheuna D. Lawrence, aged 64 years. The deceased had been confined to his home for the past eight weeks. He was conscious to within two hours of his death and when the grim reaper claimed its victim, his wife and daughter were at his bedside. He was an extensive owner of business and residence property in this city and of farm property in the county. He also owned large silver mining interests at Leadville, Col., and gold mining interests in Oregon. He was one of the heaviest stockholders of the State National bank, of this city, and was its president at the time of his death. He is survived by his widow and his only daughter, Mrs. E. W. Dana.

Rheuna D. Lawrence was born in Green county, Ohio, near Xenia, in 1837. His father, Lewis W. Lawrence, was a major in the Mexican war and died before his son had reached his tenth year. His mother was Susan M. Bell, daughter of Major Bell.

Mr. Lawrence was married to Miss Mary A., daughter of John C. Maxcy, in 1859. One daughter has blessed this union - Mrs. Susie Dana, widow of the lamented Edwin W. Dana, who met his death quite recently by an accident in the mining districts of Oregon, where he was manager of a gold mine in which Mr. Lawrence was interested. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 2-19-1901

The meeting of the city council last night was adjourned to meet next Monday night, as a mark of respect to the late Rheuna D. Lawrence, ex-mayor of Springfield, and president of the school board. The members of the city council will attend the funeral of ex-Mayor Lawrence on Wednesday afternoon in a body. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 2-19-1901
